Artist Bio
Except for a five-year
period in the seventies, Rita Jacks has always lived in Parke
County. She joined the Covered Bridge Art Association in 1978, took
a ten-year hiatus in 1982 to raise her children, and returned to active
status in 1993. She has served in 2001-02 as president of the
organization.
Her paintings often focus on
old buildings, flowers and plants, baskets, or underwater scenes in her
preferred media of oils and watercolors.
Her interest in art goes
back to early elementary school when art was her favorite class.
With the encouragement of her high school art teacher, she applied and was
accepted into John Herron Art Institute, now a division of IUPUI.
After graduation from
Herron, she became an art teacher and pursued a master's degree at DePauw
University. For almost twenty years, she has been teaching art to
junior and senior high students in the Rockville school system.
A practicing professional
artist since 1975, Rita has won first and second place awards in many
local exhibits. She has shown her works in banks at Greencastle and
Rockville and offers her work on the Internet.
