Linda Stalker is a Parke
County native who spent 34 years teaching junior high and high school.
She taught English, speech, journalism, and was a media specialist.
She now does public relations work for PVETI and promotes technical
education programs in Parke and Vermillion counties.
She enjoyed drawing cartoons as a child, but she didn't start taking
painting classes until the 1970's. Connie McClure was her mentor,
and she enjoyed taking lessons from Joe Trover, Rob O'Dell, Louise Hansen,
Joe Fettingis, and Laura Mason.
She joined the Covered Bridge Art Association in the early 1970's.
She and Connie painted in front of the Mansfield Mill during Covered
Bridge Festival for a time and had their own shop at Bellmore next to the
Country Store for several years.
Although she began with palette knife painting with oils, she now prefers
painting watercolors, especially flowers. She has won awards at the
Little Italy Festival, the Vigo and Parke County fairs, and at the Spring
Art Show at the Covered Bridge Art Gallery.
