Artist Bio
Born in New York City, Jan
remembers art as an important part of her life since childhood. With
a grandfather who was a member of the New York Museum of Modern Art and a
mother who was an art major, she was taken to the most outstanding art
museums.
She studied art at Wilmington College in Ohio and at DePauw University at
Greencastle, Indiana. She moves to Parke County after her marriage.
Jan has practiced her craft for more than thirty years. Her style
reflects the values of simplicity and honesty inherent in her Quaker
faith. Subjects that possess strong shapes, shadows, and
reflections, such as still life and architecture, primarily interest her
as an artist. Her chosen media are watercolor and photography.
She has been the subject of a special exhibit at the Crawfordsville
Library and a biographical feature in the Journal
Review.
Currently teaching art and
photography at South Montgomery High School, Jan continues her study of
art through courses in art and workshops around the country.
